A government shutdown has been averted for the time being.
On Thursday morning, President Trump signed a stopgap spending bill. The legislation allocates funding for the federal government until December 11.
The continuing resolution was established following negotiations between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
Congress remains at an impasse amid negotiations for a potential new coronavirus relief package, with the presidential elections and the confirmation of a new Supreme Court justice vying for attention. The continuing resolution will push back decisions on budget items until after the elections, although a lame-duck Congress may not succeed in crafting a budget before a December 12 shutdown.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- With gratitude for the passage and signing of the bill that will enable the government to remain open until mid-December.
- For members of Congress to work together in the best interests of the American public.
- That the Trump Administration would have success in negotiating with legislators over COVID-19 aid and spending.
